A man who admitted trying set a dog on a police officer, and punching the officer twice, was remanded in custody after admitting three charges at Christchurch District Court today.
On September 8, police were called to an address after Adam Honehone Tepurei, 28, became verbally and physically aggressive towards his partner, and refused to leave the address.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Anna Lloyd said he pushed the woman in her chest, forced her into a wardrobe door, and pinned her against the wall.
She managed to throw a bottle at him and break free, but he found her in the kitchen and punched her. He told her if she called the police he would kill her.
She received bruising to left arm and pain to her head.
When he saw the police arriving he said he would come back and kill her.
A police sergeant arrived and was met by Tepurei, who tried set a dog on him. He advanced towards the sergeant who attempted to use a taser on him, but it failed to activate. Tepurei punched the sergeant twice to the left side of his face, and was finally restrained with pepper spray.
Tepurei was charged with assaulting police, assaulting a woman, and threatening to kill.
Judge John Clapham remanded Tepurei in custody to November 5 for a pre-sentence report and sentencing.
