An elderly man has collapsed and died in a waiting area at the Christchurch Court House.
The man collapsed in the waiting area outside District Court 3 about 10am.
An ambulance was called, but no defibrillator was available at the building.
Court officials later reported that the man had died.
That?led to the closing of adjoining District Courts 3 and 4 for the rest of the day. Cases in those courts were transferred to other courtrooms.
A heart attack diagnosis for an accused man in a blackmail trial in the High Court stopped the trial for a time yesterday while he was taken to hospital, but he returned and the trial resumed this morning.
