Man admits driving woman to pharmacy robberies

A man who admitted driving a woman to pharmacies to rob them of drugs, was remanded in custody for sentencing on October 18 at Christchurch District Court.

Teaahu Reti, 39, was charged with two aggravated robberies, and unlawfully taking a mountain bike. He pleaded guilty at a pre-trial session yesterday.

Police said Reti drove Liana Jaime Kahi, who was sentenced to three years 11 months prison on Thursday, to a pharmacy in New Brighton on February 16.

He waited in the car while Kahi covered her face with a balaclava, and armed with scissors, demanded and drugs. She was given some and he drove her away.

Later that day Reti took the mountain bike .

On February 20 he drove Kahi to a pharmacy in Mairehau. This time she was wearing a black scarf and carrying a knife. She asked for morphine, took the bag of drugs, and ran back to Reti who again drove her away.

Kahi told police she was coerced by Reti, but Reti said he just drove the car.

Judge Jane Farish remanded Reti to October 18 and ordered a pre-sentence report.

A man charged with being an accessory by allegedly enabling Reti and Kahi to avoid arrest is still being dealt with by the court.
