A young man has returned from Australia to face new charges after the victim of an October 27 car accident died.
Cody Marcus John Pierce, 22, was charged with driving while disqualified, drink-driving causing death, failing to stop at the accident, and failing to report the accident on Johnson Road West Melton.
Defence counsel Richard Maze said Pierce returned from Australia voluntarily when the victim of the accident died.
In Christchurch District Court today, Judge Noel Walsh remanded Pierce on bail with strict conditions to not drink, drive, contact the dead person?s family or work place, or witnesses to the accident. He also has to surrender his passport.
Pierce was remanded to January 21.
