A Swannanoa man charged with a series of assaults after an incident at Rangiora at the weekend was unable to attend a Christchurch District Court appearance today because he was undergoing surgery.
Daniel Laws, 34, a farm worker, had a swollen black eye when he first appearanced in court on Monday.
He was remanded in custody but counsel Michael Starling today told Judge Noel Walsh that Laws would be unable to attend on remand because he was in hospital.
Judge Walsh excused his appearance because he was having surgery for his injuries and further remanded him in custody to January 17 on charges of assaulting a woman three times, threatening to kill three police officers, assaulting one officer, threatening to kill another man, injuring that man, wounding him, and assaulting a four-year-old child twice.
