A Swannanoa man has indicated he will defend a series of assault and threatening charges.
The 34-year-old farm worker, Daniel Laws, was refused bail at his remand appearance before Judge Raoul Neave in the Christchurch District Court today.
He elected trial on a charge of wounding a man with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and was remanded to a post-committal conference on March 22.
On charges of assaulting the same woman three times, threatening to kill three police officers, assaulting one officer, threatening to kill and injuring another man, and assaulting a four-year-old twice, he was remanded to a pre-trial hearing on February 7.
The charges arise from a series of incidents on January 5.
Defence counsel Michael Starling said Laws could live at an address in Parklands, Christchurch, if he were granted bail, but the police continued to oppose his release.
