Electronically monitored bail has been granted to a 22-year-old man charged with the aggravated robbery of a Christchurch bar.
Jackson Manson turned himself in to the police investigating the late night robbery of the Sideline bar in Stanmore Road, Linwood.
Manson arranged through his lawyer to go to the police station on December 10, three days after the police had issued a statement saying they were seeking him in connection with the November 7 robbery.
He was remanded in custody at his first appearance but sought release on electronically monitored bail at a Christchurch District Court sitting before Judge Paul Kellar yesterday.
Manson also faces charges of receiving stolen property, driving without a licence, failing to stop for police, and reckless driving.
Police allege that late on November 7, Manson and Dallas Edwards, 24, entered the Sideline Bar in Stanmore Road with balaclavas on and threatened to shoot staff before leaving with cash.
They also allege that on November 23 Manson fled from the police as he was driving with a revoked licence, and failed to stop for police, and that after a burglary on October 8 Manson received some stolen property.
Defence counsel Tim Fournier said Manson had a suitable bail address, and Judge Paul Kellar granted the request and remanded Manson to a post-committal conference on February 8 for the aggravated robbery charge.
Dallas Edwards was arrested about a week after the robbery. He has been remanded to a post-committal conference on February 14, and remains in custody.
