A homeless Canadian man charged with?squatting in earthquake abandoned buildings in Christchurch now faces deportation.
David William Dakota Denton, a 31-year old from Vancouver, appeared in the Christchurch District Court yesterday, and an officer from immigration asked Judge John Strettell to remand Denton in custody until February 8 to give them time to organise transport back to Canada.
The man has now been served with a deportation liability notice.
Denton, who has been in New Zealand since November 13, and in custody since January 9, asked the court how long it took to buy an airline ticket.
At one of his previous appearances he said the police and the justice system were ?a bunch of liars?.
Denton faced two charges of being unlawfully in a building ? one in Avonside, and the Linwood Bowling Club - and one of being unlawfully in a yard.
