Jury retires in Roper murder trial

The jury has retired to consider its verdicts in the murder trial of 24-year-old Nikki Roper.

The jury retired at 12.25pm when Justice Forrest Miller completed his summing up on the seventh day of the trial in the High Court at Christchurch.

Crown prosecutor Pip Currie and defence counsel Simon Shamy had earlier delivered their closing addresses in the trial where Roper is charged with the murder of 21-year-old Christchurch mother Alexsis Maria Tovizi in December 2010.

Miss Tovizi was an ex-girlfriend.

Roper denies the charge, and has also pleaded not guilty to charges of unlawfully taking her car, stealing her laptop, and five charges of dishonestly using her bankcard.
