Man in custody on unlawful detention charges

Release on bail was not sought for a 22-year-old man charged with unlawfully detaining two men and robbing one of them.

Police allege the three offences took place at Christchurch on May 19.

They have charged Shane Michael Ford Wakefield, of Bexley, with robbing a man of two DVD players, a computer, xbox, $100 cash, cellphone, watch, games, DVDs, compact discs, and speakers.

He is charged with unlawfully detaining two men with intent to cause them to be confined, while he was with three unknown men. They also allege he was with three unknown men at the time of the robbery.

Defence counsel John Black asked for a remand without plea to June 3 to enable other counsel to be arranged. He told Christchurch District Court Judge Jane Farish ? who granted the remand ? that no application for bail would be made today.
