Court House-Sept-2013-07Suppression of name has been lifted on a 37-year-old childcare worker who has admitted importing the class A drug methamphetamine into New Zealand.

Haley Carol Jacobs appeared in the Christchurch District Court where defence counsel  Bridget Ayrey said she was not applying to continue a name suppression order.

Kathy Basire, representing the New Zealand Customs Service, asked Judge David Holderness to withdraw one charge, and Jacobs pleaded to guilty to a representative charge which said she imported the drug several times from South Africa from January 1 to July 24, 2012.

Eight grams of methamphetamine from South Africa was sent to Jacobs’ address, but the package containing four small plastic bags inside a CD case was intercepted by Customs officers at the International Mail Centre in Auckland.

Her home was searched and drug paraphernalia and eight empty point bags containing methamphetamine residue were found.

Judge Holderness remanded Jacobs on bail to November 20, and asked for a pre-sentence report with a report to assess the suitability for a home detention sentence.
