Night visits not quiet affairs

police-carThis appears to be why the police are reluctant to accept that people just don’t notice when they make nocturnal bail checks to ensure that people are at home as required.

The Christchurch District Court was dealing with a woman who said she had been asleep in a room down the side of the house, and in a deep sleep, and did not wake up.

Prosecutor Bronwen Skea gave her view to Judge Phillip Moran: “There is no way to escape a policeman knocking on your door for a bail check. It’s not an ordinary knock.”

Apparently these visitations are not genteel affairs. They can wake the neighbours.

The woman didn’t get her bail and was remanded in custody for a month.
