Custody remand on Redwood murder charge

Papanui Police signA 24-year-old Redwood man has been remanded in custody on a charge of murdering a man at the home where they both lived.

At the request of Duty Lawyer Norm Farquhar, Christchurch District Court Judge David Saunders granted interim name suppression which means the name of the alleged victim also cannot be published.

The fact that the two men lived at the same address has already been made public by the police.

No bail application was made for the man and he remains in custody for his remand appearance at a pre-trial session in the High Court on November 22.

He is charged with murdering the man in an incident that led to the police being called to the house at 2am today. The 24-year-old was found at the scene and arrested.

Police said they were not seeking anyone else in connection with the death. They had spoken to the occupants at the address, as well as the dead man’s family.
