‘Plum sauce burglar’ agrees to custody remand
Christchurch’s alleged plum sauce burglar has agreed to a remand in custody while he recovers in Christchurch Hospital from the police dog bite wounds he received at the time of his arrest.
The 34-year-old man underwent surgery yesterday, at a time when he would normally have been appearing at the Christchurch District Court charged with burglary, driving while disqualified, unlawfully taking a car, and possession of a knife in a public place.
Police said he was found after the burglary with a bourbon bottle that actually contained home made plum sauce.
Suggestions that a special court sitting at the hospital might be needed were dispelled when a Duty Lawyer spoke to him after his surgery and he consented to the remand in custody.
The remand was done without the need for any court appearance, and the man is next due to appear at court on November 18.
