A man facing 10 charges of causing loss by deception over an alleged petrol scam has been remanded without plea by a registrar at the Christchurch District Court.
Kim Michael David Barwell, a 48-year-old labourer from Riccarton, was remanded without needing to appear before a judge.
He is next due to appear at court on December 12, and he remains on bail.
Barwell is charged that he obtained money from nine people by deception by falsely claiming that he needed money for petrol in order to travel to his home. The tenth charges alleges he caused loss of $60 to a man by deception, but gives no other details.
The amounts of money range from $20 to $200, with police alleging the offences occurred between August 25 and October 19.
