Northlands-09More charges may be laid against a man accused of entering malls by cutting his way through shop ceilings and taking cash.

Defence counsel Moana Cole asked for James William Cornes, 39, to be remanded for another two weeks after police indicated in the Christchurch District Court that more charges could be laid.

Cornes faces five charges of burglary, at the Richmond Mall near Nelson, Merivale Mall, and Northlands Shopping Centre in Christchurch, and one charge of possessing instruments for burglary.

Judge Tony Couch remanded Cornes in custody, without plea, to August 14.

Cornes was arrested and appeared in the Blenheim District Court on July 11, when he was remanded for a video-link appearance in Christchurch yesterday.
