Community work sentence for second shotgun offender
A community work sentence has been imposed on a second offender who has admitted being involved in an incident in which a shotgun was fired at a tree in Rawhiti Domain, New Brighton, last month.
Police received complaints from residents in the area and went to the park with a dog handler.
Isaac Milnor, a 22-year-old scaffolder, admitted being in the park but said he did not fire the shotgun, and did not know who owned it. He admitted a charge of unlawful possession of the shotgun.
Milnor was one of three arrested when armed police later stopped a car in Pages Road and found the shotgun inside.
Peter Raymond Snowden, a 38-year-old plasterer who drove the men away from the area, has already been given a 100-hour community work sentence.
Joshua Ngatiki Ngarimu, 20, of Addington, pleaded guilty at an earlier session to unlawful possession of the weapon and firing it with reckless disregard for people’s safety. He will be sentenced on August 22 after a remand in custody.
Christchurch District Court Judge Gary MacAskill said today Milnor should receive the same penalty as his co-offender and sentenced him to 100 hours community work.
