Road cones-red zoneSentencing of an EQC staffer who admitted misusing the commission’s cars, fuel cards and a cellphone for her own purposes has been delayed for a restorative justice meeting.

Epenesa Valavala, 24, had her sentencing put off until December 3 in the Christchurch District Court after the Probation Service suggested the session be held.

Defence counsel Phillip Allan said the restorative justice meeting would involve her former co-workers at EQC who felt “significantly affected” by her offending.

Valavala pleaded guilty in September to three charges of unlawfully converting EQC cars to her own use, obtaining by deception, and dishonestly using a document.

Mr Allan has indicated that Valavala will apply for a discharge without conviction at her sentencing.

Judge Brian Callaghan granted the adjournment.
