Carjacking charge denied

Court House-Sept-2013-08A 53-year-old man is denying a charge of robbing a Christchurch man of a car while armed with a knife.

Kevin John Rewa, 53, pleaded not guilty and elected a judge-alone trial in the Christchurch District Court. He was remanded for a case review hearing on March 16.

Defence counsel Lee Lee Heah applied for bail for Rewa, but police opposed the application, and Judge Emma Smith decided the remand would be in custody.

She said she would consider an electronically monitored bail application for Rewa at a later date.

The Armed Offenders Squad arrested Rewa outside the Waiau Lodge Hotel on November 23 after he allegedly took the car from Edgeware Road on November 22.
