Electronics targeted in school break-ins
A 17-year-old who raided iPods and laptop computers in break-ins at two Christchurch primary schools is in custody for his sentencing in February.
None of the stolen computers have been found and the reparation bill is mounting against Frank Gardiner Finch, the unemployed youth who has now admitted a long list of charges.
He pleaded guilty in the Christchurch District Court today and Judge Paul Kellar remanded him in custody for sentencing on February 20.
Finch and a co-offender broken into the Fendalton Open Air School in October by jemmying open a classroom window and took five Apple iPads worth $600 each.
He has admitted receiving a laptop taken in a house burglary, which he then sold on Facebook.
He also admits burgling Gilberthorpe School, Hornby, on November 16, when he got away with four laptop computers worth $4000.
He pleaded guilty to two other house burglaries, drive-off petrol thefts at service stations in Fendalton and Halswell, and a charge of reckless driving.
Finch picked up a group of associates in a car on November 15 and drove them to the Waimakariri River where he was drifting the car at speed.
At 150km an hour he lost control and crashed the car through some bollards and a tree.
A woman passenger received a large cut to her leg and was knocked unconscious. She received stitches and spent the night in hospital.
