Threats to government officials alleged

Court House-Sept-2013-08The name of an Upper Riccarton man, and the details of the threats he allegedly sent by email to government officials, have been suppressed in the Christchurch District Court.

The 50-year-old man was granted bail, with a curfew, and ordered not to drink alcohol, or use drugs, or use the internet. He has to surrender his passport, and not contact his alleged victims.

Judge Raoul Neave presided over the bail hearing where the police opposed the man’s release. But the judge said he had decided the man could be released under strict conditions.

He granted the name suppression of the complainants and their occupations, which was asked for on behalf of the police in Wellington. Serious restrictions apply to reporting of details of bail hearings.

He also suppressed the man’s name, and the threats in the emails, until either pleas of guilty or a trial occurred.

The man was remanded on bail to January 29.
