A man accused of being an on-line predator was mistakenly released on bail last week, but rearrested on Saturday afternoon.
Forty-six-year-old Shane William Grogan, also known as Shane Calder, is now in custody after an appearance in the Christchurch District Court today.
He will stay in custody at Christchurch Men’s Prison pending a bail application by his defence counsel, Ruth Buddicom, next Monday.
Grogan has been charged with three thefts from houses, dishonestly using a document, and unlawfully taking a car.
When he appeared before Judge David Saunders, duty lawyer Carol Morgan said Grogran had been released on bail but was picked up by the police again on Saturday without incident at the South City shopping centre “because he was not meant to have been released”.
She said Grogan now agreed to a further remand in custody for the bail application to be made next week.
Police allege that Grogan has befriended women through on-line dating sites before stealing from them.
