Day’s delay for Linwood murder trial
A High Court murder trial over a woman’s death after an alleged bashing in a Linwood house more than two years ago has been delayed for a day after legal argument.
Timothy Joseph Foley, 54, unemployed, was due to stand trial in the High Court at Christchurch before Justice Cameron Mander and a jury, for the murder of Michelle Mary Lawrence, 41.
The police alleged that the victim was bashed on June 10, 2012, and admitted to hospital with critical injuries. She died in hospital about three weeks later.
The trial was due to start today and a jury panel was summoned to the High Court. But before the jury was called into court, a series of closed-court legal discussions began.
After a further delay of more than an hour, Justice Mander decided to delay the trial until tomorrow, and the court will reassemble then.
