Court House-07A 23-year-old New Plymouth man arrested after a police car chase at the Tower Junction shopping centre yesterday was remanded in custody when he appeared in the Christchurch District Court today.

Jamyn David Reiri was charged with unlawfully taking a Nissan car on February 14.

On February 17 it is alleged he stole petrol from the Mobil Service Station in Bealey Avenue, unlawfully possessed a knife, drove dangerously, drove while forbidden, and failed to stop for police using flashing lights.

Judge Paul Kellar remanded Reiri in custody without plea to tomorrow for a bail application, which is opposed by police.

Reiri was arrested at the Tower Junction shopping centre after he allegedly abandoned the stolen car and tried to outrun the police on foot.

Police said they began pursuing the Nissan driver after the vehicle was identified as stolen.

Reiri also has two outstanding warrants to arrest.
