Delay for Christchurch murder trial
A Christchurch murder trial scheduled for April has been delayed to early June with the appointment of Jonathan Eaton QC as defence counsel.
The trial of Zariah Jae Samson, 23, of Bryndwr, charged with the murder of Cory James Protos, 30, of Ashburton, had been set for the High Court in Christchurch on April 13.
The case was called at a pre-trial session before Justice Cameron Mander yesterday, where the court was told of Mr Eaton’s assignment, and agreed to reschedule the two-week trial to start on June 2.
Samson remains in custody.
