Police logo-04A 35-year-old man has admitted a burglary in Fendalton last week but continues to deny assaulting a man as he tried to make his getaway.

Police alleged Joseph Luke Tindall assaulted a neighbour who had approached him after noticing a unknown car in the house’s driveway.

Tindall admitted a charge of intentionally damaging the householder’s car that was used to block him in the driveway as he rammed his way clear.

He did manage to drive off, but was stopped by police soon after in St Albans.

He also pleaded guilty in the Christchurch District Court to charges of burglary, dangerous driving, failing to stop for the police, and driving while forbidden.

Judge Brian Callaghan remanded him in custody for a pre-sentence report and sentencing on May 27.

He did not ask for a report on his suitability for home detention after defence counsel Vicki Walsh said Tindall did not have an address available. Tindall’s address is listed on the charging documents as “no fixed abode, Christchurch central”.

A not guilty plea was entered on the charge of aggravated assault and Tindall was remanded for a case review on that charge to May 26.
