Witness claims victim was bleeding before ‘invasion’

Court House-doorwayA woman has told of seeing an alleged sexual assault victim sitting in a pool of blood on the bed before a home invasion attack began.

The woman gave her evidence on the third day of the trial of two brothers who face aggravated burglary and wounding charges, and their mother who faces the charge of sexual violation by unlawful sexual connection.

They deny all charges in the Christchurch District Court trial before Judge Brian Callaghan and a jury.

The Crown alleges that the mother, Sarah Janine Godkin, 48, thrust her fingers in the woman’s vagina, causing lacerations and bleeding, while the pay-back attack was going on.

The woman has told the court of needing internal stitches in the wounds.

The woman was naked because she and her partner were in bed together when the group of attackers burst into their bedroom. The Crown alleges the attack was payback for the mother’s claim of being assaulted when she was ejected from a party at the Wainoni house the night before.

The witness said today two or three men had gone into the bedroom after the door was kicked open. One of them was Isaac Miles Milner, 22, who was on trial.

She said that as soon as the group burst the door open, she saw the woman sitting in the bed, in a pool or blood. She saw the woman’s partner with blood dripping from his penis. She said she never saw Godkin attack the woman at any stage.

The witness said she had gone to the house with the group – including two other women – to show the male victim of the attack the injuries to Godkin from the incident the night before. She would not have gone if she had known any violence was going to take place.

Godkin’s other son, Ethan Wikaira Milner, 21, is the other accused in the two-week trial.
