Court House-Sept-2013-05Police opposed bail for a 47-year-old Sumner man who was allegedly tasered after a series of car crashes across the eastern suburbs on Sunday night.

The charges involve a series of allegations that he assaulted people who tried to stop him, using a car as a weapon.

Richard Allen Clark, a painter, entered no pleas to the eight charges.

When Clark applied for bail, Christchurch District Court Judge Brian Callaghan refused to release him and remanded him in custody to November 23, for an appearance by video-link from the prison.

Clark faced charges of intentionally damaging a motorcycle, five charges alleging assaults on four people using a Holden utility vehicle as a weapon, driving with a level of 886mcg of alcohol to a litre of breath, and driving recklessly on Wakefield Avenue, Sumner.

The breath-alcohol limit for prosecution at court is 400mcg.

Police said they were aware of seven vehicles being damaged during the incident. They say Clark was arrested in Sumner after being tasered.
