Court House-Sept-2013-05A 25-year-old Woolston man was sentenced to more than three years’ prison for his part in a violent Aranui home invasion in which a man’s leg was broken.

Mikaira Douglas Morgan, a gib stopper, was sentenced on a charge of aggravated robbery, a breach of community work, and breaching bail.

Christchurch District Court Judge Paul Kellar said two men planned the invasion, and on April 14 three men pushed their way into the house in Wimborne Crescent with their faces covered with t-shirts or scarves.

One of the men had a hammer, and Morgan stayed in the passageway of the house holding a woman down on the floor.

The other two men went into the lounge and questioned a man, hit him on the legs with a hammer, and broke one of his legs.

The three men left with money, and a cell phone.

The victim was taken to hospital for surgery on his leg, and had lacerations on the back of his head and his elbow.

Judge Kellar said Morgan had previous violent convictions over seven years, sentenced him to three and a half years in prison, and read the three strike warning for repeat violent offenders to him.
