“It’s about time your brain started driving your behaviour rather than other parts of your anatomy.”
Christchurch District Court Judge Raoul Neave’s advice to a 27-year-old who had admitted a charge of having unlawful sexual connection with a 15-year-old girl.
The girl had lied about her age the first time she and the man had sex, and Judge Neave said that might have amounted to some excuse, but the man had no excuse for the continuing sexual activity after the girl had disclosed her true age.
He noted the man had 18 convictions for failing to comply with bail conditions or court orders.
“Your decision making is obviously appalling,” said the judge, jailing the man for 18 months and refusing home detention because of his record.
