The High Court trial of a 19-year-old charged with the murder of a Christchurch baby has been set to begin on February 7.
The date was set when Shayal Upashna Sami, a Fijian-Indian woman, appeared at a pre-trial call-over before Justice Cameron Mander at the High Court today.
Sami has pleaded not guilty and the trial is expected to last two to three weeks. Jonathan Eaton QC will be defence counsel.
Sami, a babysitter, was charged in January 2015 with the murder of Aaliyah Ashlyn Chand, aged one year.
Sami and a neighbour took the injured child to Christchurch Hospital where she died with her family around her. The child had died of blunt force impact injury.
Sami remains on bail.
