Assault on murder victim alleged
An Opawa man has been charged with a serious assault on Marcus Luke Tucker on the day of his alleged murder.
George Perry Waata, 51, has been jointly charged with assaulting Tucker with intent to injure him on April 24, the day before his bashed, wrapped, and burnt body was found dumped near Lake Ellesmere.
Waata is charged jointly with Peter John Carroll who is in custody on a charge of murdering Tucker.
He appeared before Justices of the Peace in the Christchurch District Court today and was remanded in custody to May 26. No application for bail was made.
