Court House-Sept-2013-05A former Prebbleton School principal has admitted 10 historic charges of indecent assault and sexual violation against a boy.

Michael William Hogan, 54, pleaded guilty to the offending which occurred between 1990 and 1995 when Hogan was teaching at small school in Southland.

The offending involved one victim, who was aged between 13 to 18 during the period of offending, at two different Southland schools.

Some of the charges were representative, indicating the offence took place at least once in a specified period.

The charges involved oral sex, anal sex, and anal digital penetration.

Christchurch District Court Judge Jane Farish remanded Hogan in custody until his sentencing on December 14.

Defence counsel Grant Tyrrell said Hogan was willing to attend a restorative justice meeting with the victim, and Judge Farish said it was to be considered.

She asked for an updated victim impact report, and a pre-sentence report to be prepared for the sentencing.

Hogan was the principal at Prebbleton School until the end of last year. He first appeared in court on sex charges in May this year.

At a remand appearance in June, he acknowledged that indecent sexual offending had occurred early in his teaching career and surrendered his bail.

He was then remanded in custody for today’s appearance where some charges had been amended, and guilty pleas were then entered.
