Child sex and violence allegations sent to Auckland
An Auckland man facing sex and violence charges involving five children is being sent back north after his arrest in Christchurch.
The 32-year-old appeared before Judge Jane McMeeken in the Christchurch District Court today and was remanded in custody to appear in the Pukekohe District Court on December 21.
He made no application for bail, but duty lawyer Steve Hembrow asked for the labourer’s name to be suppressed.
Judge McMeeken granted the interim suppression and remanded the man without plea on 14 charges.
The man is charged with multiple rapes of a girl aged 13, as well as indecently assaulting and having unlawful sexual connection with her.
He is also charged with hitting, kicking or slapping four children, and hitting one of them with a broomstick.
The charges were laid by the police in Manukau, Auckland, with offending alleged to have occurred in Auckland and Northland
