A child sex offender cried while a Christchurch judge jailed him for nine years.
Brett Alan Savage, 35, had admitted two charges of two rape, five of unlawful sexual connection, and three of indecent assault, all on two children.
Defence counsel Nick Rout told the Christchurch District Court that Savage had spent time on his education while he was in prison on remand
Judge Jane Farish said Savage had no prior convictions, but this offending was serious, and involved multiple victims.
Psychological reports had been prepared on the impact of the offending on the children for the judge to consider prior to the sentencing, she said.
Judge Farish read Savage the first strike warning under the scheme that imposes heavier penalties on repeat sexual offenders, and told him it was unlikely he would be released from prison if he didn’t complete a rehabilitation programme.
