Police allege robbery was behind an armed incident in Bryndwr early on Thursday, in which a 25-year-old man was shot by an intruder.
Rory Manuel, 33, of Shirley, was remanded in custody by Justices of the Peace when he appeared in the Christchurch District Court today.
Manuel is charged with causing grievous bodily harm to two men when he robbed the men and a woman of jewellery, electrical equipment, and a car early on Thursday.
Police say the incident involved a shooting at a house in Morley St about 2am when a 25-year-old man was shot by an intruder and had to undergo surgery at Christchurch Hospital.
Police alleged at the time that two intruders entered the house.
No bail application was made when Manuel appeared in court today, and he was remanded to appear again on January 4.
Police say the victim is now expected to make a full recovery.
