Suppression continues over Ellesmere police raid
Interim name suppression was continued in the Christchurch District Court for a person with drugs and firearms charges, and who is a family member of a high-profile businessman who died a few years ago.
Police allege the man unlawfully had two pistols, a rifle, and ammunition. He is also charged with cultivating and selling cannabis, possessing methamphetamine, and possessing pipes.
The charges were laid after the police raided the property in Ellesmere, Christchurch, on January 26, where cash was also allegedly found.
Defence counsel Jonathan Eaton QC asked that the name suppression be continued until the man’s next appearance in court where it would be argued. He also said some of the charges may be amended.
Judge Tony Couch remanded the man, whose appearance was excused, to March 7, when he will plead to the charges.
