Stepfather denies murder charge

A not guilty plea to a charge of murder has been entered by James Stedman Roberts, the stepfather of a five-year-old autistic boy who died of head injuries in Christchurch Hospital last month.
Roberts, 34, entered the plea at a pre-trial call in the High Court at Christchurch today.
He is charged that on May 27 he murdered Leon Michael leFleming Jayet-Cole. Leon died in hospital two days later.
Justice Cameron Mander remanded Roberts in custody for a case review hearing in the High Court on September 11.
No application for bail has been made for him.
