Ihaka Stokes murder appearance
October 2
Event Navigation
[This appearance has been delayed to a pre-trial call-over in November] A 22-year-old Redwood man is due to make a 9am pre-trial appearance in the High Court on October 2, 2015, for a case review after pleading not guilty to charges of assaulting 14-month-old Ihaka Paora Braxton Stokes on July 2, 2015, and murdering him on July 3, 2015. At first appearance on July 16, he was granted name suppression for 24 hours — later extended to five days. The order was later extended again, for reasons that cannot be reported, but the order may be reargued before today’s appearance. Defence counsel is Phil Shamy. Ihaka was taken to Christchurch Hospital on July 3 with multiple injuries that the police said were non-accidental and died soon after.
