Bail not opposed for sex worker attack accused
A man accused of an attack on a sex worker in central Christchurch early on Friday was likely to be granted bail after his appearance in the Christchurch District Court today.
Police did not oppose his release on bail when the 20-year-old appeared before Judge David Ongley.
The man, a kitchen hand, was asking to be remanded on bail to stay at an address in Bromley, after the police had checked that the address was suitable.
The hearing was delayed for the check to be made.
The man entered no plea to the charge of assault on a woman with intent to commit sexual violation.
Duty lawyer Trudi Aickin was also seeking an interim order suppressing the man’s name, and the order was not opposed by the police.
