Brothel prosecution to resume in September
The trial of a woman charged with breaching the City Plan by running a brothel in Phillipstown has been adjourned to September.
Evidence continued all day on Friday in the Christchurch District Court in the trial of Fan Jiang, and then Judge Craig Thompson adjourned the hearing to September 29.
Jiang denies a charge of operating a business without a resource consent and operating a brothel outside the permitted area specified by the Christchurch City Council’s brothel bylaw.
The bylaw does not apply to small owner-operated brothels which can operate anywhere within Christchurch but must have fewer than four sex workers who must retain control over their earnings.
The hearing began in June but was adjourned after two days and has resumed this week.
