Alleged kidnap and bashing victim admits theft
The man who was allegedly the victim of a gang kidnap and bashing admitted a charge of theft of a tablet computer in the Christchurch District Court yesterday.
Dawson Reihana, 34, took the tablet from a shelf where a visiting sales representative had placed it, in the New World supermarket in Stanmore Road, in September 2014.
The tablet belonged to the victim’s employer Sanitarium, and Reihana put it in his trolley as he passed. He gave it to an unidentified female associate, who hid it in a pram while he paid for the groceries.
Reihana pleaded guilty to the charge of theft, and Judge Jane Farish remanded him on bail to sentencing on September 18. Reparation of $1300 is being sought for the tablet.
Reihana was allegedly kidnapped and bashed by the Mongrel Mob on August 8, resulting in 10 arrests. He was hospitalised for his injuries, but was able to walk yesterday.
