Third person charged over alleged scam

Court House-entranceA third man charged with scamming elderly victims has been remanded in custody until next week at the Christchurch District Court after his arrest on Friday morning.

Brendon Karl Dean Harris, 20, of Hei Hei, entered not guilty pleas to four charges of dishonestly obtaining control of documents and elected trial by jury.

Defence counsel Ethan Huda began an application for bail, but Judge Stephen O’Driscoll remanded Harris to next Thursday, in custody, to get more information before the decision is made.

Two other people charged over the alleged scam have also been remanded in custody and are due to make appearances at court by video-link from Christchurch Prison next week. They are Denise Cherelle Greig, 29, and Henry Edward Halliday, also known as Samuel Edward Taylor, 26. They have entered no pleas.
