Woolston murder accused can be named
Name suppression has lifted on the man charged with murder and manslaughter over a riverbank incident in Woolston in February.
Defence counsel for Tony Joe Harrington, Serina Bailey told a pre-trial session at the High Court in Christchurch today that there were no longer grounds to continue the order and no bail application would be made.
Justice Cameron Mander said the order lapsed, when he remanded 36-year-old Harrington in custody for a case review hearing on May 6.
Harrington, who lives in Woolston, has been charged over the death of 41-year-old Simon Prue in the incident on the Heathcote riverbank near Richardson Terrace on the evening of February 12.
Harrington was charged with manslaughter straight afterwards and the police then laid a murder charge three weeks later.
Crown prosecutor Kathy Basire said the Crown intended that both charges would remain as alternative charges.
No pleas have been entered.
