Court House-doorwayTwo assaults on a woman, and two attacks on a dog, all within two weeks, were admitted by a 36-year-old man in the Christchurch District Court.

Roger Allan Mosen Marshall assaulted his victim after a verbal argument at the beginning of June, when he held a hot oil column heater against her.

He then lifted her by the hair, threw her into a corner and threw items at her while verbally abusing her. He placed his hands around the front of her neck before she left the address.

Later in June Marshall became frustrated with his dog Zion. He tied the dog to his bedroom door and hit him with his fist in the head and body.

The next day Marshall had another argument with the woman over another dog he had, Xebec.

He threw the dog across the room, and the dog landed on an oil heater knocking it over.

Marshall then grabbed the woman by her hair, grabbed her around the neck causing her to lose consciousness.

When she could she began gathering her items, and was attacked again around the neck. She fought Marshall off and he bit her nose, before releasing her.

The victim received numerous injuries, including bruising to her neck and throat, bruises to her rib cage and upper body, bruising and swelling of her scalp, and haemorrhaging to her eyes.

Marshall pleaded guilty to charges of assaulting a female, illtreating an animal, and injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Judge Jane Farish read Marshall the first of the three strike warnings for repeat violent offenders, and remanded him in custody for sentencing on April 22.

She requested a pre-sentence report and a victim impact report be prepared for that date.
