Long list of charges denied
A Burnham 21-year-old has denied more than 40 charges alleging burglaries and thefts around the Selwyn area and the case is heading for a jury trial.
Defence counsel Phillip Allan indicated the not guilty pleas for Luke Alexander Reich at an appearance by video-link before Judge Brian Callaghan in the Christchurch District Court today.
The judge remanded Reich for a case review on June 27 on about 24 burglary charges, 10 thefts, and six charges of interfering with cars. The exact number of charges is not clear because additional charges have been added and at least one withdrawn.
A further charge was added today, alleging a burglary at Ohoka, North Canterbury, in February. No plea has been entered to that charge, but it was remanded to the same date.
Reich was arrested in February after allegedly being caught by a Weedons homeowner. He was originally charged with six offences and remanded in custody after bail was refused. At his next appearance, police laid more than 30 more charges, and still more charges have been laid at next two appearances.
Reich remains in custody.
