A 40-year-old Ashburton man has been granted interim name suppression on seven sex charges.Police did not oppose the man being released on bail, with conditions about his residence, reporting to the Ashburton police, and having no contact with the two complainants.
He faces four charges of sexual violation, two of indecent assault, and one of sexual connection with a child aged between eight and 12 years.
The offending is alleged to have occurred between 2003 and 2015, in Ashburton.
Defence counsel Tony Garrett asked for the name suppression, and a three week remand without plea at the man’s first appearance before Judge Tom Gilbert in the Christchurch District Court today.
Judge Gilbert granted the suppression and remanded the man on bail to April 28.
